It is useful for verifying results. Even if the replacements are completed in Mata, Mata can still indicate what it's doing. One option is to display the replace command that is equivalent to its replace operation (the closest equivalent to readreplace version 1 functionality). Alternatively, it could describe the replacement in something closer to plain English.
