Recursor Default Domain

Hi,
I'm trying to add a "default domain" to incoming queries that do not have one (e.g. just the hostname). It seems like if possible it can only be done with a custom LUA script. I've tried using preresolve and preoutquery but I'm unable to actually modify the query in question.
Such as overriding the DNS server

Or by overriding the qname with

dq.qname = newDN(cleaned_qname .. ".zibbp.net")

Is this possible to accomplish? Dnsmasq is able to infer the domain if none is provided which is what I'm trying to recreate.

1. remoteaddr is the address of the client.
2. I would think this is normally something done by the stub resolver in the client, e.g. by settings search in resolv.conf
3. If 2) is not sufficient, I'm not sure if qname can be altered, will get back to that later.

Altering qname in a Lua interception function is indeed not possible. dnsdist might be able to do it.

The functionality you're after is not something typically found in full recursive resolver. dnsmasq forwards all queries to upstream configured resolvers, and as such is more like a stub resolver with a lot of features.
