History suggestions with Vi as EditMode

Hi

In my current setup, I have history predictions turned on when a type something. If I want to go up and down in the suggestions, I have to use the up and down arrow keys. I would like to be able to use and , by entering command mode using Escape. But If I hit Escape at the moment, the suggestions are removed.

Is there a way to do what I want, or perhaps a better approach is available when using Vi as the EditMode?
