Currently highlighting is "sticky" per open file / tab - in other words, if I highlight one word on tab1, and another word on tab2, the work on tab 1 is still highlighted.
I would like the option to modify this behavior. When working on a multiple file project, it's often useful to be able to find all occurrences across all open files. When I highlight a word in one tab, I would like the word to be highlighted in all open files.

You want the functionality to be like with a split pane, but with tabs instead?
This might be tricky as the Tabs keep the selection of your previous state. We'd need double check if an event is fired (on tab change is a selection event fired?)
We would also need to record which selection was last and use that to get the String out of it.
