Detect R800 mode before detecting the EPCS4 device and switch to Z80 mode in C2FWUPD utility. In R800 mode cartridge is unstable and updating the firmware may be risky

Problems with timing on R800 are fixed in firmware v3.02.0001. Will be released in May-June 2024.
