Fade-out bug with "items picked up" pop-up

If I pick up an item, a notification appears in the corner of the screen and fades out after a few seconds. If I pick up more of that item while the message is on-screen, it will update the number and refresh its duration.

However, if I pick up more of the item while the message is fading out, it will keep fading out and disappear without updating the number, then briefly appear again with updated number and fade out again.
