Specifically they're excluded from the charts but affect the domain, i.e. if a null value is present the lower limit of the variable domain is set to 0.

And they're also treated as missing (?)

Hmm, it's been a loooooong time since I looked at this, but I'm guessing the domain calculation is just pointing at the wrong data set. Happy to do a review if you put a PR together.
