حتى عام 1919 كان صيادي التماسيح في امريكا يستعملون الأطفال الأفارقة السود كطعم لصيد التماسيح ، وكانت هذه الطريقة رائجة جداً في ولاية فلوريدا التي يكثر فيها التماسيح . .
حيث كان الصيادون البيض يختطفون الأطفال الرضع من الأمهات السود المستعبدات ومن ثم يتم وضع
الطفل بالقرب من البحيرات أو المستنقعات مع ربطه بحبل طويل ويترك الطفل ليبكي الساعات طويلة حتى يجلب التماسيح اليه . . وما أن يبتلع التمساح الطفل الصغير حتى يتم سحبه من قبل الصياد بواسطة الحبل وقتله بواسطة عتلة او رمح وسلخ جلده لاحقاً لاستخدامه في صناعة الأحذية والحقائب .
وكانت جريدة التايمز الأمريكية سنة 1923 اول من كشف عن هذه الطريقة البشعة في صيد التماسيح والتي أصبحت في ذلك الوقت أشبه بتقليد فلكلوري يتبعه الصيادين البيض في ولاية فلوريدا وتكساس، وهذا الفعل الشنيع يمارس منذ عام 1870 قبل أن يجرمها الكونجرس الأمريكي وسلطات الولاية عام 1924 م
