Brady Stroud commented on Disqus at February 03 2023, 04:51 I think there are some frequent emails that we could move to Discussions to reduce inbox noise |

Lee Hawkins commented on Disqus at February 03 2023, 05:01 I wasn't aware of this feature in GitHub but it looks useful and has all the features I'd expect of a feature of this type. I can see plenty of use cases for this and maybe we can handle the "Suggestions" items in SugarLearning using GitHub Discussions rather than emails. I'd like us to decide whether GitHub Discussions is a thing or are a thing, and then be consistent in the rule and other places we refer to it/them. |

Jake Bayliss commented on Disqus at February 03 2023, 05:28 Haven't had the chance to use it yet but this looks great and packs a whole lot of cool features. We will definitely be able to move a whole lot of discussions (pun intended) away from email/teams and onto here and have them available to everyone |

Ulysses Maclaren commented on Disqus at February 03 2023, 05:29 Very cool... I always wondered what the correct place to store these "pre-PBI" discussions should be... up till now it's been Teams chats and emails |

Daniel Mackay commented on Disqus at February 03 2023, 05:43 I love the idea of GitHub discussions. It makes it much easier to follow a conversation especially if you get 'looped' in halfway through. I do wonder about privacy though. Some discussions may not be best had in public, and some people may not be as open/honest if they know their comments can be seen by everyone. However, I think in a lot of cases it can be great. Often good ideas can feed of other good ideas and iterate to become amazing ideas! Love the idea of converting discussions to issues, to instantly include all context for a PB As for the rule, it provides some great general advice as to how discussions should be used. I would like to see some proposals as to how specifically we would use this at SSW. |

Matt Goldman [SSW] commented on Disqus at February 03 2023, 06:03 Discussions are great, especially now that you can convert to an issue. As an aside, not sure about the 'cutting down on email' noise part. I've received a notification email for every comment in this discussion before I've even looked at it (as I was tagged in an earlier comment). Not a complaint, just an observation. Of course you can easily unsubscribe from email notifcations. Discussions are definitely superior to email. Being able to see the whole conversation in one place, upvote and react to comments, comment threads, not having to worry about conversation fragmentation in your inbox and search through different chains, worry about replying to an outdated email, etc... |

Mehmet Ozdemir commented on Disqus at February 03 2023, 06:06 Looks fine, but I'll probably stick with Issues https://docs.github.com/en/... is a useful place to get started with Discussions |

Toby Churches commented on Disqus at February 03 2023, 06:27 Although I haven't used this feature previously, It looks great! I think it makes sense to keep the discussions and issues in one spot, rather than spreading them across multiple platforms. It's definitely a bonus that the discussions can be made public, allowing new devs to easily gain context on the subject. I will definitely be using this feature 😁 |

Jonty Gardner commented on Disqus at February 03 2023, 06:31 I love it provides a centralized platform for team discussions, reducing the need for using emails. A con is the customization options - working with video a lot we need to show visuals easy e.g. videos, gifs etc. |

Charles Vionnet commented on Disqus at February 03 2023, 06:34 I like the way it can be used for product communication and community interaction (Poll, Product announcements, upvotes), also the integration with other GitHub features. A great tool for projects on GitHub. As the number of source of discussion increases (Discussions, emails, Teams), it needs to be clear which tool is used for the project to avoid any miss in the flow of communication. |

Aman Kumar commented on Disqus at February 03 2023, 07:03 I wasn't aware of this cool feature, it would be really handy in open-source projects where we can easily discuss feedback, issues, and maybe new ideas and track them, instead of following up on the emails. |
