Unclear Volume Status

as i had problems with the volume at the first usage (i heared no voice commands), i noticed that the volume/mute status is unclear.
does the icon show the current status or is it a button which action is shown. if you see the striked out loudspeaker, does it mean if i press it i will mute the sound or does it mean the sound is currently muted. maybe add a message like "the sound is now muted"
