When trying to install in a conda environment:

:~$ conda install -c biobakery lefse

UnsatisfiableError: The following specifications were found
to be incompatible with the existing python installation in your environment:

Specifications:

  - lefse -> python[version='>=2.7,<2.8.0a0']

Your python: python=3.8

If python is on the left-most side of the chain, that's the version you've asked for.
When python appears to the right, that indicates that the thing on the left is somehow
not available for the python version you are constrained to. Note that conda will not
change your python version to a different minor version unless you explicitly specify
that.

The following specifications were found to be incompatible with your system:

  - feature:/linux-64::__glibc==2.31=0
  - feature:|@/linux-64::__glibc==2.31=0

Your installed version is: 2.31

I saw that the code on GitHub was recently updated to work with python 3 but this doesn't seem to work.
Any idea how to resolve this ?

Thanks,
Rudy

I think you could create an environment specifically with python 2.7 and then install LEfse. I hope it helps.

conda create -n thelefse python=2.7
conda activate thelefse
conda install -c biobakery lefse

Same error was as follows in terms of me:

Specifications:

  - lefse -> python[version='2.7.*|<3|>=3.7|>=2.7,<2.8.0a0']

Your python: python=3.6

Thank you for your solution @drelo , I installed it by changing the python version to 3.7. It works!
