I am not familiar with vs code and extensions... but I'm curious what this can do.

This semester, I enabled github codespaces for my courses. It essentially spins up a vm and provides vs code in the browser. It would be great to have an extension that will allow me to easily customize the tools needed for the course.

Also.. for early semester students.. a way to simplify use of git would be great.
