On the free-form nature of the _parameters and _meta fields

Concerns have been raised about the _parameters and _meta fields being free-form.
My counterargument has been that not having them free-form would defeat the point of the container format: Being able to wrap any current and future GS file formats.
It's definitely sub-optimal to have free-form fields be a core part of a standard, but this standard was thought up to be flexible enough to wrap any other current and future GS format, no matter what kind of data and parameters they need.

Personally I don't think there are alternatives here, given the goals of the format, but what do you think? Any suggestions on improvements?

Do it like css. They have had -moz-opacity and -ms-filter and so on. And later it became the standard as just opacity.

I like the idea of defining what we can and having anything else prefixed.
Then the issue becomes, what can we define? Guess the fastest way to figure this out would be to simply create a draft implementation and throwing stuff at it to see what we need.
