The original barcode4j did not have support for GS1 encoded Datamatrix codes because it lacked the capability to encode the FNC1 symbol necessary that serves as a prefix and separator for AI fields. This would increase the usability of this library a lot since GS1 Datamatrix is on its way to become an industry standard.
