Ambient Applications that are interested in sensor data or actuators need to connect to an avaliable bridge. Finding it is a problem and that is where such protocolls can come in handy. The Bridge only needs the discovery part, after that http/coap are the protocoll to go for.

Apperently a bunch of network protocolls have to be implemented here. Android 4.0 and highr implements what they call NSD, then there is UPnP, then there is Airplay (which has the library http://jmdns.sourceforge.net/index.html) and there is Whifi direct, which is cool but only works if one is not in a wifi...

Any discovery would be nice for now but in the longterm all of this should run in prallel, making the bridge dicoverable by any and all.
