Have an events calendar!

Basic functionality:

Admin view: need to be able to edit events
Events - maybe make this a custom post type. Show all events in the "Events Calendar" view.
On the home page, make a widget such as "events today" or "events coming up this week"

In the future:

Let anyone (student group, etc.) advertise events on the home page.
Maybe advertisers will need to pay to advertise their own recruiting events?
