I was taking a look to the chapter of the book and I think Chapter 29 - Treating Code as an Essay by Yukihiro Matsumoto, which is quite short and easy to follow. The other chapters are interesting but rather technical, so I think we can skip them for now.
I think we can add a reading assignment about pair programming that also mentions extreme programming. This is the best I found: Strengthening the Case for Pair Programming. There are also some references to extreme programming, but I think for this next week we can have these two as reading assignments.
Look for a reading assignment that includes some of the following items
and it is focused on scientific software.
