Entering the customized mode currently involves clicking the chevron ^ in the title bar1. Ideally this transition would be covered by Shared Element Transitions, too.
Stretch goal: for user agents that have a notion of installable web apps, it would be super neat for an in-tab experience to morph straight into the installed (standalone) mode with (potentially) customized window controls overlay.
Similar to #68, another interesting use case that I briefly chatted about with @jakearchibald is the interaction with Window Controls Overlay.
