We're planning to convert this to a parent theme, and then redesign other sites using it. I don't think the specific sites have been picked yet, though. cc @beafialho
Rosetta sites won't immediately get the new news theme, primarily due to technical reasons.
There's some history here that's worth explaining, but I'll just give the latest iteration:
Previously: WordPress.org ran the wporg-main theme, WordPress.org/news is a separate site, running the wordblog theme.
Now: WordPress.org runs the wporg-main theme, WordPress.org/news is a separate site, running the wporg-news-2021 theme.
Rosetta sites: example.WordPress.org runs the wporg-main theme, example.wordpress.org/news is the same site, running the wporg-main theme.
When the wporg-main theme became a thing years ago, it integrated the blog into the main theme, it was intended that it would be used to replace wordpress.org/ and wordpress.org/news to match the setup that Rosetta sites had. Unfortunately it never ended up replacing wordpress.org/news and as a result, the new News theme is it's own theme again.
To roll this out to Rosetta sites, we'll have to either a) split the News component out of Rosetta sites or b) do some work to make the two themes work on the same site (which is a headache).
Are there any plans to roll this out for rosetta site (other locale sites, like de.wordpress.org/news)?
