Encryption is possible/necessary?

This app has potential.
I'm looking for secure extranet communication, would be it possible to encrypt the message? Or https using?

I don't have much experience with secure communication, but I do want to add the option for it. I guess I'll have to add a way to add server certificates.
I also plan to add a "privacy mode" which is enabled by default, so that the app only sends the color.
