How To Install Java in Mac Sonoma 14.4.1

Hi. Have you have a simple explanation of how to install zkn on Mac (Sonoma 14.4.1)? I tried a file, which I don't even know if it's the correct file anymore (in the past it was simple, the executor was there, it was just one). I'm one of the oldest users of zkn (still from the time when the purpose really had to do with Luhmann...), but now with communication via github it has become something else, for another group. I don’t really know even if I am in the right place here.

Yes, thus version is better. But is just in Portuguese anda there are no all the options. For example, I don't find the Zettelkasten>Einstellung menu. But works so far...

Yes, I work in my PC too, with windows. But that just for now... or I will have to maintain that just for using zkn.

In fact, after some attempts... sorry, but there are many other errors in this downloaded version. Not all windows open, when they open there are no menus available, there are a lack of options... in short, it's not possible to work like that.

I honestly don't know where the information that Zettelkasten only works with Java 8 comes from. Zettelkasten has been compatible with higher versions for a while now. I've just tried it with Java 17 and it works. However, the dmg build is currently not working.
However, the .jar file should be executable with any Java version >= 8. However, Mac OS may warn you that the developer could not be verified. In this case, right-click -> Open. Another button will then appear with which Zettelkasten can be opened.

Why should that be an example of why to recommend java 8? The steps required here to debug would be the same for java 8. For me at least it works with java 21 (admittedly have not tried 22, but wouldn't recommend that anyway as described above).
The log indicates that this is probably a bug in zettelkasten. And, as also described, java 8 is not and cannot be the way forward.
But I can see that we won't get anywhere on this topic (and others). Recommend what you think is best.

I think this is the main reason why Zettelkasten still needs Java 8 (at least on MacOS).

Are you going to check this for each new version of Java in the future?

And, I honestly don't know where the information that the DMG needs to be repaired comes from. ;-)
I have just checked again to see if the installation of 3.2023.10 from the dmg works. It does (with Java 8).

I already answered that. Zettelkasten runs on Java 17 and 21 just fine with all the problems and quirks that are already present with the usage of Java 8.

The experience with @luzcosta's installation attempts, seems to show that it does not seem to work with Java 22. I stand by my recommendation to try Java 8 first.

Hello, I have installed java1.8(java -version:"Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.411-b09, mixed mode)") and Daven3, I read all the information in this post, I can open the zettlekasten.jar file using java1.8 now, but when I open the zettlekasten.dmg, it still shows "cannot determine the location of the JVE". To get the Zettelkasten software up and running on Antônio's (aka @luzcosta) new Mac, I made an appointment with him for Monday, April 29, 2024. I really enjoyed our meeting. These moments motivate me to keep working on the Zettelkasten software. The question "How to install Java in Mac Sonoma" has already been answered. In the meeting we were able to confirm that a Zettelkasten installation under JDK 22 on a Mac does not have a menu entry for settings.

One result of our exchange was that our documentation needs to clarify that there is a difference between people who use the Zettelkasten and people who want to develop the Zettelkasten software. Users only need a Java Runtime Environment (JRE), while developers need a Java Development Kit (JDK). Commit 723afbf clarifies this.
