Using internal API without loading the image

I'm looking for a solution to use lazysizes without loading the images but using an event fired when the correct srcset candidate is found (but the image is prevented to be loaded).

I would like to use it in three.js websites, where the images are provided from the dom and the candidates are sent to three.textureloader (avoiding the double load)

Do you think it's possibile in any way?
