  • The dataset is a fictitious dataset based on global sales data for Adventure Works.
  • It focuses on total sales across four main categories: Bikes, Clothing, Accessories, and Components.
  • The data covers the period from 2017 through 2020.
  • The dataset includes information on salespeople, products, and geographic locations, and can be drilled down to the quarterly level for more detailed analysis.

Notable Findings

  • From 2017 to 2018, sales skyrocketed by +86.15%.
  • From 2018 to 2019, we saw a steadier increase of +10.00%.
  • However, when comparing total sales from 2019 to 2020, there was a sharp 50.26% decrease, likely due to the global pandemic and lockdowns, which significantly impacted overall revenue.
  • Interestingly, while Bikes had the highest gross sales, it was the least profitable category, highlighting a gap between revenue and profitability.
  • Top 3 salespeople: Tsvi Reiter, Michael Blythe, and Jillian Carson.
  • Notably, Jillian Carson exceeded her quarterly sales goal by 17.18K, marking a whopping 2,222% increase in total sales for her category.

Conclusion

After reviewing the global sales for Adventure Works, which covers 2017 through 2020, and focuses on sales for Bikes, Clothing, Accessories, and Components. Key findings include a huge sales spike from 2017 to 2018 (+86.15%), and a more gradual rise in 2019 (+10.00%), followed by a sharp decline in 2020 (-50.26%), likely due to the pandemic. Although the Bikes category had the highest sales, it ranked the lowest in profitability. To address this, it’s recommended to review other high performing categories, such as components that align with Bikes but have a higher profit margin. By identifying and focusing on these stronger categories, there is potential to create a targeted marketing strategy to boost sales revenue and overall profitability.
