Firstly you cannot play the onscreen keyboard. And when playing a note using a midi-keyboard the notes won't stop playing.

The keyboard just visualizes the notes being played at this point. That's a great feature request and something I'd love to add.
I'm not having any trouble with the notes playing continuously. I'm using an AKAI LPK25. What type of MIDI keyboard are you using?
