Can I change my username? #38

Sorry, could you clarify this? You're using a Mastodon client (and thus this plugin) to log in to your WordPress. The handle should be the one of the account that you used for login. It this not the case? |
It’s the name of the Wordpress Account that I used to login, which is admin because that’s the first WordPress user that is always caressed. I don’t want to be admin@ though. |
Ok, I see. Well, the actual ActivityPub address is defined by the ActivityPub plugin and it uses the author username. So even if we created an override for display in your Mastodon App, the posts would still be published by the ActivityPub plugin. Is there a chance that you'd just create a new user under which you'd like to publish the posts? You can transfer old posts to the new user. |
If it’s so complicated then I guess that what I’ll have to do. I would guess it’s a pretty common issue because at least as far as I remember there is no real choice during the setup so maybe it’s worth tackling anyways. Thanks for the quick response anyways, helps me a lot. |
I guess the reason for this is that ActivityPub is actor based, i.e. you can follow single people on a blog using ActivityPub. In 1.0.0 it introduced a blog-wide user whose @-part of the address you can choose but all it does is boost the others' posts. Maybe @pfefferle also wants to weigh in here. |
If you disable the authors and only use the blog-author, then the blog-author will take over the authorship for the activities instead of simply boosting the author posts. I hope this makes sense?!? |
But changing the username will be also possible in one of the next releases! |
In the meantime, you could use one of these plugins to change the username https://wordpress.org/plugins/search/Change+Username/ |
When logging in with my WordPress account my Mastodon handle is "@admin@my-wordpress".
It would be great if I could easily change my user handle.
