My team has received some feedback from an accessibility consultant related to the Show More button on refinements. We've observed that, after clicking Show More, the focus remains on the button, and the button then functions as a "Show Less". So the effect is to toggle between Show and Hide.
The recommendation we received is to accommodate keyboard-users with the following: after clicking Show More, the focus should change to the first new list-item that is exposed. So assume a user is clicking "tab" to navigate links, then it allows the user to continue down the list of refinements in order. (In our case, we show five refinements. User clicks "Show More", the full list is shown and focus moves to item #6.)
Has this been discussed before? I'm not well-versed in accessibility. But I assume this project has addressed these types of concerns before, so please point me to any info, if possible. I suppose the alternative is building a custom widget for the refinements. In that case, are there other examples I could see for responding to actions like expanding a refinement list?
