Description of the issue

Using the Edge browser, it is possible for the blue bar under the header to introduce a small gap at some zoom levels

90%
Image of the header showing a small 1-2 pixel gap between the header's blue bar and the main header at 90% zoom

100%
Image of the header showing no gap between the header's blue bar and the main header at 100% zoom

Steps to reproduce the issue

  • Run the code linked to in Environment
  • Open Microsoft Edge in a browser and change zoom settings (usually from 100% to 90%)

Actual vs expected behaviour

Expected: No gap is introduced between the header's blue bar and the main header
Actual: A gap is sometimes introduced between the header's blue bar and the main header

I've just been able to replicate on a different, live site hosted as GDS's blog using the same browser configuration, implying it's not our frontend port that is the problem:

https://gds.blog.gov.uk/2025/01/27/same-name-new-ambitions/

A gap between the accent bar and main bar appears on the GDS blog at 90% zoom

Notably however, this does not happen on the main GDS page at https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/government-digital-service, which is an unusual inconsistency:

No gap between the accent bar and main bar appears on the GDS main page at 90% zoom
