We should make an effort to simplify some of our discussion, using the gitlab infrastructure for it. In particular:

issue templates for bugs and improvements and feature requests
merge request templates
labels for typical stuff

Notes on templates:

remember related milestones and issues in merge requests
check for documentation on new features
