As a DB schema designer, or to view existing schema? For the later, there are options like Schema Spy, for design, particularly if you do validation behind scenes (e.g. most tools won't let you drop a FK onto a table w/o a PK) that is a bit more.

There are other GUI design tools (including UML tools, or tools that do UML and ERD--many commercial tools like Visual Paradigm ,IBM Rational, etc. but also I did notice that KDE Umbrello also does ERD--at least MySQL/MariaDB & PostgreSQL flavored--as well as UML2) that can generate DDL. Its nice to have all in one tool--if that is all you do. But, if you do MDA/MDD and want to leverage your models to generate code and DB schema then its nice to have something like a XMI to DDL (i.e. does your ORM ).
