The install-spotify script should replace version in the spec file
So one does not have to wonder why it is still trying to build old version when one updated it in the script.

I guess by this you mean that the value of $VERSION in install-spotify.sh could be subtituted into the Version: header in spotify-client.spec ?

Yes, exactly. Though you are gonna need to remove the trailing revision iirc
