Where should we put our event listings or calendar? #1008
Comments
From the meeting couple of weeks ago we learned that events.backdropcms.org is currently built as custom distribution that has features for organizing conferences and would require too many changes to handle simple events The most simple solution that I would like to propose at this time is to
However, this issues has lower priority than defining what goes to the events page #1009 |
@irinaz - I think that there are different ideas about the intent for events.backdropcms.org. I was involved in creating it and it was my hope and understanding that we would eventually use it for more than just BackdropCMS.org. While most functionality on the events site is for Backdrop LIVE, I think it will be easier to update the events site than it will be to make the changes we are hoping for on Backdropcms.org. Also, I'd like to address the confusion about having two different places for events. I know that others feel differently about these questions and I'm listening and open to other ideas. I would be fine improving the event listings on backdropcms.org, but in the past there has been push back about adding specialty modules to backdropcms.org and I THINK we'd have more flexibility on the events site, since the implications of breaking things on the events site is much less than if we break Backdropcms.org. |
I think that it would be great to have more clarity. I know that Stanford has https://events.stanford.edu/ as listing of all kind of events and https://live.stanford.edu/ which is dedicated to Bing Concert Hall. Drupal setup with https://events.drupal.org/ and link https://www.drupal.org/community/events to Community events on the front page is another example. |
Should we keep events on backdropcms.org or link from backdropcms.org to events.backdropcms.org and list events there?
Background information (Tim's perspective).
Event and meeting information has traditionally been on Backdropcms.org
In my opinion, some memberts of the community have had trouble understanding the difference between events and meetings, specifically for things like office hours or the more recent "community meetings."
Events.backdrocms.org was set up primarily for Backdrop LIVE, but with the intention that it could also be used for other events. It was never clearly defined how or what it would be used for beyond Backdrop LIVE.
