Just found this and it looks very promising (although I wish it supported ed25519) but there doesn't seem to be going on much anymore with the last release being from August 2023.

Before I implement it, I would like to be sure to not bet on a dead horse...

I have the same question as you, I'm still happy with it tho without the ed25519
