Chicago

  • year suffixes can only be used for single-author works (15.20); multi authors are disambiguated using names and'/or short titles (I didn't realize this; will need to think on how to address it)
  • et al. is italicized in bib, not in text (recent refactor should make this easy)
  • sometimes formatting will vary depending on presence of months or dates; there's no way to achieve this here without a parameter outside the templates.

APA:

  • only ever use et al when the "others" are more than one (see also, which includes a link to a biblatex issue on this, which reminds me Borrow from biblatex #64), since et al. is in fact plural (with recent refactor of contributors, this should be straightforward; can incorporate it when expanding disambiguation support); see Brenton's response, which recommends ignoring this rule
  • "and" conjunction on names is different for narrative and parenthetical citations (I was aware of this, but haven't implemented it yet, since I haven't gotten to citations yet)

Personally, I don't think that the "et al" rule from APA should be implemented.

Yeah, I saw your response, and am not planning to.

Though it probably wouldn't be difficult to in this model/codebase.
