I have no idea what is causing this to happen. It looks like all of the JSON data is being loaded, but for some reason it isn't all being displayed.
Replicated on Windows 7/Firefox 45.0.1. See http://screencast.com/t/Q1kwOoMgs for a short video depicting the issue. Did all the browser troubleshooting basics first (cleared cache/cookies, tried a new/private profile, etc).

I inadvertently figured out what's causing this last night. I didn't see it
at first, but what's happening is the timeline selector is selecting a
shorter date range when you click on the date range that's already
selected, thus showing less POIs. I expect you'll catch it if you're
focusing on the timeline selector while watching the video.
At best, it's an UX enhancement. Otherwise, it could easily be considered
functioning as designed. You can close this out if you want.
