Malt version

Development

Blender version

Blender 4.1.1

OS

Manjaro Linux 64bit

Hardware info

AMD 7900X | 64GB RAM | AMD Radeon RX 7900

Issue description and reproduction steps

After a system update, Malt's no longer working for me. The default scene is just black no matter how lights/shaders are set up. Malt in a scene where I've been using Malt the whole time will have get stuck Malt restarting/crashing over and over if I try to render in viewport.

Attachments

I've attached the malt log for both the crashing and the black scene that doesn't render. I've also attached a file that crashes for me, though it crashes on ALL my malt files.

The first log shows some errors, but they're on the Blender side, so it doesn't seems to be related to your crashes.
The second log doesn't show errors at all. 🤔
By system update do you mean OS update or a hardware update?

Things I would try:

  • Ensure you're using an official Blender release.
  • Try with the latest Malt Release and Development versions.
  • Use empty scenes without any objects for testing.
  • Check if the MiniPipeline also crashes (In World > Pipeline Settings > Malt Pipeline select this file).
  • Run blender from a terminal and check if there's any error shown that doesn't show on the Malt Log.

OS update, yes.

  • I was using the official release from Blender.org. I also tried the official Blender flatpak and it still has the same issue.

  • I've tried with both the latest release and development versions.

  • An empty scene is the same as the default scene - it just shows black (no crash)

  • Minipipeline does not crash and renders properly

  • Only thing that appears is this after Malt crashes
    Uploading maltcrash.log…

Hey! Sorry for the late answer.
It looks like your log uploading failed.

If the Minipipeline doesn't crash then it's likely a driver regression.
If the log doesn't clarify anything I'll upload a "debug" Malt version so at least we can know when it's crashing.

Oops, sorry about that. Here's the log

What would I need to do to to make a debug version?

I've just updated the Development version.
In the BlenderMalt addon preferences enable the Debug Mode and post the log.

The uniform warnings went away but it's still not rendering anything

I need the Malt log (Preferences > Add-ons > BlenderMalt > Open Session Log), not all info is printed to the console.

My bad, here's the session log for the default file.

Here's the session log for malt restarting over and over
