There is potential confusion in the language tags and filters between:
Dutch/Flemish vs. Middle Dutch (the implication is that the first is modern Dutch, which is probably wrong)
German vs Old High German vs MIddle High German vs Middle Low German vs Mainfrankish vs Westphalian vs Swabian vs Bavarian (the implication is that German is modern German which is wrong)
French vs Anglo-Norman (the implication is that only the items tagged as Anglo-Norman are Anglo-Norman which is wrong).
We need to ensure that the tagging is consistent as well as accurate and that a consistent level of precision/granularity is adopted. We should consult users as to the appropriate level of granularity.

I've already set up both "Ancient Greek" and "Modern Greek" to be merged into a single facet labelled just "Greek" because of inconsistent use of the "grc" and "gre" codes in Fihrist. If you'd like me to do the same for any of the languages above, send me a list of codes and the labels you want them to be merged into. Obviously, that won't help other data users (e.g. MMM or FAMOUS).

Codes in works.xml should be revised in line with codes in the individual manuscript files. @adunning

@adunning where are we with this do you think?
We could set both "en" and "enm" to display in the filter as "English or Middle English"?
similarly we could have a filter "Dutch or Middle Dutch" for both of those.
the main remaining issue would then be German - currently in addition to MHG, MLG, OHG, OS, we have a generic "German" - can we improve that?
