@thyhmdo thought to add some clarity since this came up during one of my conversations with @oliviaflory but we have two different component/patterns — status icons (which equivalent to the the Carbon core status indicators in code ... albeit some are outdated and would need update) and status indicators (which despite the shared name, are more step-based).
Sam Ting confirmed that we can merge this into the Core Carbon
Diana said some teams are using shapes for Severity levels but just for aesthetic levels. Diana shared some examples
Health and Provision (cloud resource status indicators) Stephanie said this could be confusing.
Sam, Stephanie, and Shaun could be the collaborators
Jennifer will send examples of Badge statuses on the rail

Followed up with Cameron and Jimmy. Their initial thought is they're not tied to the idea of simplfying the shape indicators' pattern. They could indicate anything that would have a low to high/critical scale. Jimmy also suggested to look at other products, like IBM Concerts because it could be more than Secruity has for severity/risk levels in the UI.
Seems like we can do more research and consider the shape indicator's usage.
