Greetings! The R Social Science team has been attempting to get the HTML files published for the code handouts associated with each lesson. Based on @bencomp's suggestion, it appears that the Makefile needs to include .Rmd files in the _extras. @bencomp presents great suggestions for how these files can be added in this issue, but we as maintainers believe this is a bit above our level of expertise.
Thanks for the help!

Currently, the Makefile that coordinates the rendering of Rmd files into Markdown only looks for Rmd files into the _episodes_rmd folder and so files in other directories are ignored. Modifying the scripts to make this work is going to require some work as @bencompalluded to.
Most of our efforts for the lesson template are currently directed towards the next iteration of the lesson template, which supports Rmd rendering from anywhere (see carpentries/sandpaper#172). We are a few months away from a beta release that would allow you to test this new feature with the r-socialsci lesson.
