R&D: Native Account Abstraction

We need to explore and develop a research prototype for native account abstraction on Citrea. The goal is to implement native account abstraction to enhance flexibility, user experience, and programmability. Native account abstraction (AA) should enable advanced features such as multi-signature wallets, social recovery, and programmable validation logic.

Objectives

• Research Native Account Abstraction Models: Investigate how zkSync and other L2s implement native account abstraction. Analyze the pros and cons of native AA compared to EIP-4337 (Ethereum's model).
• Bootloader & Transaction Flow: Explore how Citrea can handle native AA transactions through its bootloader (a.k.a sov_evm:run_txs), managing validation, execution, and ensuring that it remains gas-efficient and scalable.
• Data Availability & Transaction Costs: Investigate the cost structure of AA transactions and ensure efficient data availability on Bitcoin. Define performance metrics for Citrea AA, including cost per transaction and resource overhead.

Expected Outcomes:

• A detailed prototype design and potential implementation plan for native account abstraction on Citrea.
• A comprehensive report on the performance trade-offs, security considerations, and feasibility of native AA.
• Comparison and decision analysis between native AA and EIP-4337 for Citrea's future direction.

Dependencies:

• Integration with Citrea's bootloader and existing transaction flow.
• Consensus mechanisms and proof-generation processes for validating native AA transactions.
