Connection was reset after uploading File xls in PHP 5.3.8 Ubuntu 12.04

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. upload xls file below

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
expecting the array result instead of connection reset in browsers, trying to 
do the same in Mandriva and windows working fine.

Please provide any additional information below.
im using :

1. PHP 5.3.8 on Ubuntu Server 12.04 with XAMPP
2. memory_limit set to 1024MB
3. max_execution_time set to 3000
4. Codeigniter 2.1.3
