Climate change requires long-term monitoring and solutions. We have attempted to code this site to be time independent, but have never tested the site to assure it will continue to work in future years. Will the site continue to function in 2034, 2041 or even 2053? To what extent do we need to test for future functionality?

I actually think we're mostly okay - 2023 hit and the state details emissions graph's grey area just expanded, but everything else is still fine, since we don't hard-code the current year. It's just the graphs might look more and more scary if we don't get updated data on progress towards the big goals we show.
