you can search in the android app, so you should be able to search in the desktop app

This app is only a front end for messages.android.com. If you can't do it there you will not ever be able to do it in this app. Use the "Send Feedback" function in this app or on the website (since they are the same) to make your request.

BTW, I recommend the fork: github.com/OrangeDrangon/android-messages-desktop as it is being updated / maintained and this one is dead.
