Split bar between video/chat portion of event page is a little confusing

In the heat of the moment (while being a session chair), I got confused by how to operate the "split bar" that separates the chat portion of the page from the main part of the page with the video.

I needed to see more of the chat, so I clicked on the arrow (makes sense) and it expanded the chat as expected. But then I could not figure out how to get back to the original view. Clicking on the arrows on the bar just toggled me between views where either the top or bottom was maximized. It was not clear how to get back to the original vertically split mode.

When I had more time, I realized I could "grab and drag" the bar to get back to the original split layout, but it would have been less confusing (at least to me) if there was something obvious I could click on to restore the original/default layout.

Confusingly (to me at least), this division of the chat/video sub-screens also seemed to be sticky across talks. To try to recover the layout, I went to another event in a different session and it also had a maximized chat, even though I had never been to that event before. I then restarted Chrome, which got me back to the default state.
