Hunger Free Oklahoma's SNAP Screener

Hunger Free Oklahoma (HFO) has partnered with Tulsa Public Schools (TPS) to create a SNAP screening program to help navigate the complicated process of applying for food benefits. Families can visit the HFO website to find out if they might qualify for SNAP.

Code for Tulsa, in collaboration with Spark Collaborative and Underdog Systems, built a simple online tool that calculates a family’s eligibility just by answering a few short questions. The tool tells the family whether they may or may not be eligible for SNAP and also connects the family with a representative at the children’s school. This way, the family has someone to connect with who will help guide them through the next step of the process. That might be filling out the full SNAP application, or, if the family isn’t eligible for whatever reason, the TPS representative would help connect the family to other resources, such as 211.
