Is it possible to alter gtagOptions after initialization?

I am trying to implement Googles consent settings based on users on my site consenting or not. It looks like to do this I would have to use gtagOptions (in lieu of gtag) to set analytics_storage to 'granted'. But near I can't tell if I am able to set them more than once (off by default, then on when the user consents). Is there a way to reset gtag within your component? Calling initialize again seems like it would be the wrong thing to do.
