backrest sftp help

I have installed backrest, and have a remote server that I am trying to set as a repo for backrest. I am using sftp which is enabled. I am getting an error of "Host key verification failed."

In the script webpage they note "cat ~/.ssh/id_ed25519.pub to view ssh public key. This key is used to authenticate with sftp targets. You can add this key on the sftp server"

Can someone help with the next steps of what this means to get the sftp authentication set up correctly.
