We are passionate about building the Crypto.org Ecosystem with our community to drive crypto mass adoption by supporting fundamental use cases like Payments, NFT and dApp (e.g, DeFi, Game-Fi).
Since day one, we have been working with many incredible partners, in particular validators, who have put us in a great position to serve the ecosystem better.
Along with the significant steps that have been made in line with our roadmap, we are very excited to announce the following major updates!
Cronos - Phase II Canis Major Upgrade on the Crypto.org Chain
Our first version of Ethermint Cronos Testnet has been live since 20 July 2021. Cronos is an EVM sidechain running concurrently with the Crypto.org Chain, which is built on Ethermint and is equipped with Smart Contract capability. It is based on the Proof-of-Authority (PoA) consensus mechanism, allowing for low energy consumption with a limited number of actors. It is a streamlined consensus protocol that can ensure security within various validators run by many different parties.
Currently, there are over 20 validators supporting Cronos. Validators are able to run a Tendermint PoS equivalent of Ethereum and enjoy all the benefits of Ethereum. Tendermint allows for more transactions per minute than the EVM, making it more efficient to execute smart contracts. Furthermore, as it is based on the Cosmos SDK, Ethermint is connected with other blockchains in the Cosmos ecosystem through the Inter Blockchain Community Protocol (IBC), enabling its users to unlock more potential on the chain.
Cronos and Tharsis Collaboration
To expand the IBC and EVM cross-chain interoperability, both the Tharsis Finance team and Crypto.org Chain engineers have been working together in delivering a top-class EVM chain on the top of Cosmos, which is the Cronos Testnet. This testnet will be the first to demonstrate Ethermint capabilities in a Cosmos interchain ecosystem, where multiple EVM chains can interoperate with each other using IBC. Non-EVM chains would also benefit from the composability of Ethermint, as they would be able to interact directly with smart contracts, NFTs, and ERC20 tokens.
The binary of Cronos testnet repository is available here; the complete details about Cronos are on its website. You can view the details of the transactions in Cronos explorer.
Release of Crypto.org Chain Desktop Wallet v0.4.2
We recently released the latest version of the Crypto.org Chain Desktop Wallet v0.4.2. The previous release of desktop wallet enabled NFT support (view, send, and mint), and other essential functions, such as staking operations, validator selections, and governance voting. Furthermore, the desktop wallet has been empowered with support for seed phrase export, allowing validators who lost their phrase to export it from the app simply by providing the app password.
In this new release, the following extensive features have been added:
The team has created a complete step-by-step Desktop Wallet user guide, updated in the Crypto.org Chain Doc under the ‘Wallet’ section. It includes detailed instructions on minting and performing NFT transactions, sending and receiving funds, staking operations, governance, as well as setting changes.
Release of NFT Web Tool Example Code
We strive to support the integrations of NFT for a plethora of use cases. While the Crypto.com NFT Marketplace is one of the most successful use cases of on-chain NFT features, we are excited to continue enabling and supporting different NFT initiatives from the community.
That’s why we are happy to share and open-source an NFT web tools example code to demonstrate how everyone can integrate their platform into the Crypto.org Chain NFT world. The example code now supports Keplr wallet, one of the trendy Cosmos SDK-based chain wallets, which is available at:

If you have any NFT project ideas, please do not hesitate to share them with us or apply for our Ecosystem Grants Programme. We look forward to hearing and supporting your brilliant idea!
Decentralized Finance Oracles
Chainlink Integration
Chainlink Price Feeds are currently being integrated into Cronos as one of our oracle solutions for developers in need of external financial market data in their DeFi applications. Chainlink connects smart contracts on the blockchain to external resources, including real-world data, Web API, and payment networks. Chainlink’s oracle infrastructure ensures consistent uptime and it is tamper-resistant.
Cronos, as Crypto.org’s Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) chain, is now able to communicate directly with Chainlink oracles for price data and information on the state of external blockchains.
Band Protocol Integration
Band Protocol is the Cosmos-based cross-chain data oracle platform that connects real-world data and APIs. Since Band Protocol is also built on Cosmos SDK, the data on Band Protocol can be quickly and efficiently integrated and communicated with the Crypto.org Chain via the inter-blockchain communication protocol (IBC).
Specifically, the Crypto.org Chain would be able to directly call the price data from Band Protocol and retrieve the data by the cross-chain functions. This could also enable the efficient transition of DeFi DApps built on Cronos using price feeds from Band Protocol if they are to migrate to the Crypto.org Chain.
Both the Chainlink and Band Protocol integrations will provide developers access to a high-performing decentralized oracle network and enable a seamless transition for DeFi DApps built on both the Crypto.org Chain and Cronos. This will further allow a wider variety of use cases on both networks.
Explorer Updates on IBC
IBC transactions have been enabled on Mainnet and have since been integrated with some of the projects. We have now enabled the support for most of the IBC messages in Explorer to help visualize the IBC messages.
In the future, we will further enhance IBC support to support more use cases.
