i think the item type does not matter.
however, the patron group does.
Matt and Rick,
We’ve got a new patron group that has borrowing privileges: CU Partner (patron group code = CUPART, patron group id = 19). This is part of the new reciprocal on-site borrowing program for Borrow Direct partners.
· Can borrow “book” item types (nothing else)
· 42-day loan, 1 renewal allowed
· Can place HOLDs and CALL SLIPs (they are eligible to obtain a GuestID)
· No Recall, BD, ILL or DD privileges
New item type: umbrella (item type ID = 40)
· records are suppressed, so items can’t be requested, but I wasn’t sure if you needed to include the item type in your code anyway
Thanks – Joanne

Suppressed records are not indexed in Blacklight, so the umbrellas shouldn't be an issue for the requests system, though mistakes happen and we might get an unsuppressed record for an umbrella at some point.
