Hey all- I've had side conversations with @jacobtomlinson and @ncclementi but wanted to make an official conversation about getting an in-depth Dask video tutorial series going. I know many of you presented this content at SciPy, so hoping to capitalize on the recent focus and energy of that to get this going.

So...a few next steps that may help get things started:

  • Are we excited about this and able to make it happen?
  • Confirm content and "modules" or chapters, and get the content organized (if not already from SciPy)
  • Determine who can/will be the instructors/presenters
  • Come up with a production schedule for screen/video capture (filming, audio, etc. Either with my self or at studio.)
  • Plan/brainstorm release and where these will live

Obviously I'm new here, but wanted to help kick things off before we get too far into the fall. Please let me know how I can help and who else needs to be a part of this conversation!

Adding @pavithraes for visibility as she was part of the group that created the material.

@mrdanjlund77 what would be the length that we want each individual module to have? I think this will give us an idea of how we can break down the content.

@ncclementi Not sure...I think it actually depends more on the content. My first guess would be 8-10min chapters or lessons, but not sure if there is data to back that up. Some of the other things I've seen range from 5 min to 15 minutes.

It would probably make more sense to break things up by content more than a target time. How long would you watch something like this?

Very excited to make this happen!

The material we used for SciPy is here. There are 5 notebooks, each of which would likely be covered by multiple videos so we may need to figure out how to break them down cleanly.

Given that I, @jsignell, @ncclementi and @pavithraes reworked the content recently and delivered the SciPy tutorial we are probably good candidates for this as long as you are all happy to do so. If others want to volunteer they would be more than welcome. I think having the more faces the better to reduce the load on individuals and also give the viewer some variety, but this also increases complexity around scheduling and things.

I do think it would be valuable for @mrocklin to maybe do a high-level intro video or something given that he is the well-known face of Dask.

@mrdanjlund77 we will need to rely on you heavily to ensure this is done to a high standard in terms of recordings.

Maybe it would be good to sync up to kick things off?

I am excited to see this happening! Very happy to work with the tutorial team to split the content up more and do some recording
