Notes from 11th November call @ramarty

  • They want daily updates of nighttime lights and not monthly trends
  • They want to see if refugee camps increased NTL
  • ADM4 aggregation statistics

Notes from the 25th November call @ramarty

  • We presented nighttime lights across border crossings with the different countries. Monthly and daily updates were shown.
  • There are more than 100 informal border crossings between Syria and Lebanon

Action items

  • Add NTL for admin 4 level close to the Syria-Lebanon border. September 2023-October 2024 % change.
  • The team wants to use NTL to detect smuggling -- we need to get ADM4 location around the boundaries, get NTL at pixel level, and check the % change in NTL between Sep 23 and Oct 24. We will check ACLED data to see if smuggling activity is reported anywhere. -- Action item on Luan's team to put us in touch with the team that worked on this from the UK.
  • Another hypothesis is to use NTL to detect conflict i.e., is NTL capturing
